Wonder-ful Komodo Island

Komodo Island's bid to be named one of the World's New 7 Wonders of Nature has (provisionally) succeeded.
Komodo Island and its famous dragons have joined an elite group including the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil and Table Mountain of South Africa, and the island also defeated some other very worthy competition, including the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

And the winners are....

Iguazu Falls had world-famous footballer Lionel Messi on its side, while Komodo Island was spearheaded by former Indonesian vice president and enormous briber Jusuf Kalla.

The bid was also assisted by a public campaign in Indonesia to vote for the island by sms and social media.
Komodo Island's nomination for the New 7 Wonders list is said to have helped increase tourism numbers by almost 200% in 2010, with numbers continuing to increase this year. [1]
The frequency of flights to nearby Komodo Airport has also increased, with 3-4 flights daily.
